The Masters Tournament is widely revered as one of the most prestigious events in the world of golf.  Held annually at the Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta,Georgia, it is rich in both tradition and history.  We present you with some fun facts that make the Masters so unique.

1.)  The Driveway
One of the most picturesque and iconic entrances one can ever experience is the tree-lined driveway of Magnolia Lane. There are 60 Magnolia Trees that stand as sentinels, creating an incredible feeling for those who drive under the arch that the they create.     

 

2.) The Invitation
The Masters is an invitational event, and invitations are extended to a select group of players.  Those selected are past champions, winners of other major championships, top finishers from previous Masters, and select international players.  An invitation to the Masters is considered an honour, and the exclusivity of the field adds to the prestige of this competition.


3.)  The Par 3 Jinx
On the Wednesday before the tournament begins, the charming tradition of the Par 3 contest is held.  It is a light hearted event, and players are welcome to bring family members, including children, to caddy for them.  One interesting fact to note is that no winner of the Par 3 contest has ever gone on to win the Masters in the same year.  It is this phenomenon that has has caused people to believe that there is a ‘Par 3 Jinx’, as it has been called.


4. The Sandwich
 One of the must experience traditions of the Masters is the iconic Pimento Cheese sandwich.   Pimento cheese is a spread made with cheddar cheese, mayonnaise and pimentos.  Along with the tradition of experiencing this sandwich, the price has remained at $1.50.

 

5. The Jacket
Starting in 1949, the iconic green jacket has been presented to every Masters champion.  The champion is allowed to keep the jacket only for a year, after which it must be returned to Augusta National where it will remain, only to be worn again when they are at Augusta National.
